Big John & "The 39th Street Blues Band" Live Blues Band |
Friday September 09, 2016 At 6:00 PM |
Big John and the 39th Street Blues Band - On the corner of 39th and Jackson in Kansas City MO, stands an old night club called Blues Alley. Old and worn, this night club has been the home to blues legends and has seen the birth of some of these legends in the making. Big John Amaro has spent many hours playing and singing the blues at Blues Alley. So it seemed natural for the patrons and the musicians of the club to call Big John's band "The 39th Street Blues Band". That was back in 1986, and the band has seen many changes in these past years. A blues player from the start, Big John Amaro has always been used to the ups and downs of the music business. None-the-less, when he made the music business his career, he knew that it wasn't going to be easy..That was 39 years ago, and now Big John is finally on his way to the top. The next stop towards his goal, was to find that perfect mesh of musicianship. That was no easy job, since Big John had played with some of the finest players in Kansas City. After many years, he has found the musicians it take to reach the perfect mesh. Big John and The 39th Street Blues Band have been on the road appearing with several great artists including Chick Willis at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago and Harry "Big Daddy" Hypolite at the 2003 & 2004 Monterey Blues Festival. They were also among the line up at the Medger Evers Homecoming Festivals in North Canton and Fayette MS along with B.B. King, Little Milton, Artie Blues Boy White, Chick Willis and Willie Cobbs. The Guys have also performed at Blues on Grand in Des Moines.

Kirk Brown Blues Band 4/21 |
Sun 4/21 Backwater Jacks |
Despite those formative influences, Brown's guitar style is not easy to categorize or compare to any one other guitarist. Really, it's Kirk Brown, which is as it should be... the blues is self-expression. A strong and powerful singer, his vocal style has been likened to Johnny Winters'. |
