Live Music w/ Driving Wheel
Event Time 6:00 PM |
Dog Days |
| The members of Driving Wheel might not be on a mission from God. But that doesn't keep them from existing as blues brothers, driven by a family vibe and a passion to perform for any crowd that will have them. And many have delighted to do so — the band has played at Roots N Blues N BBQ festival, shared a recent bill with Tab Benoit and held hands with fellow local standouts such as The Mojo Roots. The duo that makes up Driving Wheel's core — guitarist Ryan Tomlinson and bassist Jeremy Hunsaker — has fine-tuned a sound that's indebted to torchbearers in the blues, Southern rock and alternative camps. Yet, to hear Hunsaker tell it, the pair's biggest musical influences are one another. |

Big John & "The 39th Street Blues Band" Live Blues Band
Event Time 6:00 PM |
Backwater Jacks |
| Big John and the 39th Street Blues Band - On the corner of 39th and Jackson in Kansas City MO, stands an old night club called Blues Alley. Old and worn, this night club has been the home to blues legends and has seen the birth of some of these legends in the making. Big John Amaro has spent many hours playing and singing the blues at Blues Alley. So it seemed natural for the patrons and the musicians of the club to call Big John's band "The 39th Street Blues Band". That was back in 1986, and the band has seen many changes in these past years. A blues player from the start, Big John Amaro has always been used to the ups and downs of the music business. None-the-less, when he made the music business his career, he knew that it wasn't going to be easy..That was 39 years ago, and now Big John is finally on his way to the top. The next stop towards his goal, was to find that perfect mesh of musicianship. That was no easy job, since Big John had played with some of the finest players in Kansas City. After many years, he has found the musicians it take to reach the perfect mesh. Big John and The 39th Street Blues Band have been on the road appearing with several great artists including Chick Willis at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago and Harry "Big Daddy" Hypolite at the 2003 & 2004 Monterey Blues Festival. They were also among the line up at the Medger Evers Homecoming Festivals in North Canton and Fayette MS along with B.B. King, Little Milton, Artie Blues Boy White, Chick Willis and Willie Cobbs. The Guys have also performed at Blues on Grand in Des Moines. |
